Not sure if they have to. I use direct debit for all my cards -

minimum

payment - you have to pay that anyway so why not?. Then it's up to

me

if I

want to pay more.
But you get hammered with interest by paying only the minimum amount!

That's irrelevant. It remains up to me how much I pay, the direct

debit

takes the minimum - I can pay the rest off myself over the phone or

using

internet banking.

You should also be able to set up direct debit to take the full amount

every time (they still make their money off the 2.5% they charge the

shop

when you buy something).
Paying interest is not irrelevant.

But you don't pay interest. Like I said it's up to you if you pay the

full amount off or not. The fact they took the minimum by direct debit
doesn't stop you paying the rest off yourself.

Good thing about egg i you get 6 months 0% when you take out the

card

then

another 5 months aafter a year, and after 2 years.

Barclaycard was great - 2.9% for life on balance transfers, it's up

to

5.9% now - beats the others though.
